Sarah Riley LCSW
I grew up in Southwest Virginia. I obtained a degree in Sociology from Radford University in 2006 followed by a Masters of Social Work in 2009. During the early years of my career I worked primarily in community mental health providing in-home, school based counseling to children and teens. To adults I provided mental health support  and counseling. I am also experienced in working with those navigating comorbidities including medical and substance use complexities.Â
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, including the dog-o’s caring for my plants, and yoga/pilatesÂ
My Philosophy
My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that every individual possesses an innate capacity for growth and healing. I see my role not as an expert who provides answers, but as a compassionate guide who facilitates your own self-discovery. We work together to uncover the patterns that no longer serve you, creating space for new ways of being and relating to the world.
Professional excellence in counseling requires a delicate balance of evidence-based practice and genuine human connection. By integrating mindfulness-based techniques with narrative therapy, I help clients rewrite their personal stories from a place of empowerment. My philosophy centers on cultural humility and trauma-informed care, ensuring that every session is a safe harbor for your most vulnerable reflections.
Ultimately, the therapeutic journey is about reclaiming your agency. Whether you are navigating a major life transition, healing from past wounds, or seeking deeper meaning, our collaborative work is designed to strengthen your resilience. I am honored to walk beside you as you cultivate a life that feels authentic, purposeful, and deeply connected to your values.
